Our History

Hush & Hear was created from my desire to offer families a calmer, more personal experience during those early Newborn days.

Since working as a Newborn Hearing Screener in the NHS for over 7 years and seeing how overwhelming hospital appointments can feel for new parents, I wanted to provide an alternative - one that allows babies to be screened in the comfort of their own home.

Our Services

Hush & Hear, is designed around your baby's comfort and routine, giving you peace of mind.

By visiting you in your home, I'm able to carry out your baby's hearing screening assessment in a calm, familiar environment where babies are often more settled.

Each appointment is unhurried and gentle, using reliable screening equipment and professional methods.

Time is taken to explain the process, answer any questions you may have, and talk you through your baby's results clearly and honestly.

My aim is to offer families a supportive, personalised experience - combining clinical accuracy with a caring, family centred approach - so you can feel confident and reassured during your baby's earliest weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Newborn hearing screening is completely safe, quick, gentle, and non-invasive. Your baby can sleep either in your arms or on a comfortable, flat surface during your baby's  screening assessment. Appointments are unhurried and carried out in a calm, familiar environment to keep your baby comfortable.

During the appointment, your baby’s hearing will be checked using quiet, automated equipment that gently measures how their ears respond to sounds. The screening is painless and can usually be carried out while your baby is calm or asleep.

The appointment is designed to be relaxed and unhurried.

There is no minimum or maximum time, and the focus is entirely on your baby’s comfort. Plenty of time is allowed for feeding, cuddles, settling, or nappy changes, and the screening will only be done when your baby is ready. The aim is to make the experience as calm and reassuring as possible for both you and your baby.

Newborn hearing screening is highly reliable but it is important to understand that it is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. It is designed to identify babies who may need further hearing checks, rather than to diagnose hearing loss.

If your baby does not attain a 'Clear Response', further testing is required.

A referral will be advised for a diagnostic Audiological Assessment, either at your local NHS audiology department or with a private Audiologist (of your choice).

Advice and support will be given if your baby requires a diagnostic Audiological Assessment.

Results are explained clearly, and you'll have time to ask any questions you may have.

This does not necessarily mean your baby has a hearing loss but further testing is recommended to check your baby's level of hearing.

Home based hearing screening allows your baby to be tested in a calm, familiar environment, often leading to more settled appointments.

Families also value the privacy, flexibility, and personalised care that comes with a private service - without the rush of a busy clinic or hospital setting.
