Our History

Hush & Hear was created from my desire to offer families a calmer, more personal experience during those early Newborn days.

After working as a Newborn Hearing Screener in the NHS for over 8 years, I have seen first hand how overwhelming hospital appointments can sometimes feel for new parents adjusting to life with a new baby.

I wanted to provide an alternative.

As a mother myself, I understand the importance of wanting the very best care, reassurance, and support for your baby during those precious first weeks. That understanding is at the heart of everything I do at Hush & Hear.

My aim has always been to create a service that feels gentle, professional, and family-centred, giving parents the opportunity to access newborn hearing screening in a calm and relaxed environment without the added stress of travelling to appointments.

At Hush & Hear, I am passionate about providing compassionate care, trusted support, and reassurance for families during such an important stage in their baby's journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at amanda@hushandhear.co.uk if you have a question.

Yes. Newborn hearing screening is completely safe, quick, gentle, and non-invasive. Your baby can sleep either in your arms or on a comfortable, flat surface during your baby's  screening assessment. Appointments are unhurried and carried out in a calm, familiar environment to keep your baby comfortable.

During the appointment, your baby’s hearing will be checked using quiet, automated equipment that gently measures how their ears respond to sound. The screening is painless and can usually be carried out while your baby is calm or asleep.

Appointments are designed to feel relaxed and unhurried, with your baby's comfort at the centre of everything.

There is no minimum or maximum time, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, settling or nappy changes. The screening will only be carried out when your baby is ready, helping to make the experience as calm and reassuring as possible for both you and your baby.

Newborn hearing screening is highly reliable but it is important to understand that it is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. It is designed to identify babies who may benefit from further hearing assessment, rather than diagnose hearing loss.

If your baby does not attain a 'Clear Response', further testing may be recommended.

A referral for a diagnostic audiological Assessment will be advised, either through your local NHS audiology department or with a private audiologist of your choice.

Advice and support will be provided throughout the process, and results will be explained clearly, with plenty of time for you to ask any questions you may have.

Please note - this does not necessarily mean your baby has a hearing loss - however, further testing is recommended to gain a clearer understanding of your baby's hearing.

Home-based hearing screening allows your baby to be tested in a calm, familiar environment, often leading to more settled appointments.

Families also value the privacy, flexibility, and personalised care that comes with a private service - without the rush of a busy clinic or hospital setting.
